Further background to the decision by Derbyshire Dales District Council Community & Environment Committee to allocate a temporary tolerated site adjacent to Stoney Wood for a Traveller family.
On Tuesday 19th February, the DDDC ward members, District Councillors Mike Ratcliffe, Peter Slack and Irene Ratcliffe were advised of a change to the agenda of the Community & Environment Committee. The revised officer recommendation identified the preferred site as land held by DDDC in Wirksworth.
The site is located adjacent to the entrance to Stoney Wood (which is in the ownership of Wirksworth Town Council).
The Town Council were advised of the change identifying Wirksworth as the preferred site on Wednesday 20th February.
The deputy Town Mayor attended the DDDC Committee meeting on Thursday 21st February and spoke within Public Participation section of the meeting to express the Town Council's concerns regarding issue.
On Monday 25th February, the Mayor of Wirksworth wrote on behalf of the Town Council to DDDC to express our concerns regarding the decision taken by the District Council .
